Step 1 — Master the Platform First

Step 2 — Complete Your Profile Properly

Step 3 — Add the Right Keywords to Your Profile
Keywords are how Upwork’s search algorithm finds you and places your profile in front of the right clients. This is one of the most overlooked and most impactful elements of profile optimisation.

How to use it:
a. Go through the keyword list and tick the ones relevant to your skills and services in Column B.
b. Apply a filter to Column B to view only your relevant keywords — this clears the noise and lets you focus.
c. Research additional keywords specific to your profile by watching these two videos:

d. From your final keyword list, select up to 15 skills and add them to your profile and portfolio. Quality over quantity — choose the skills you can genuinely deliver on.
e. Build 6 to 9 portfolio pieces that directly demonstrate your most important skills. Each portfolio item is proof. Build it carefully.
f. Place your most important keyword in your profile title. The title is the first thing clients and the algorithm see — make it count.
